LA JOLLA

Welcome to La Jolla

Hilly, seaside neighborhood known for its picturesque family beaches

Native American artifacts—particularly a combination of stone utensils and Indian metates— discovered throughout La Jolla have made it a historical hotspot. Not only is the area rich in natural beauty and unrivaled in scenic views, enthusiasts and archeologists from all over the U.S. come to La Jolla to see its incredible discoveries in recent years.
Artifact discoveries aren't the only reason so many people are flocking to La Jolla. Its twentieth-century development kickstarted its popularity, going from a population under 400 during the early 1900s to 4,000 after WWI, almost 8,000 during WWII, and well over 40,000 today.

Local Lifestyle

Most residents in La Jolla are enthusiastic about nature and the many activities they can experience at the seaside. Oceanside parks and trails like Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve have unique paths that weave through sandstone canyons and trees. The sweeping ocean views are visible from most luxurious spots, keeping the busy water and its calming effects within reach almost anywhere in La Jolla. From water activities and shoreline walks to posh boutiques and waterfront restaurants, La Jolla is the place to be when looking for the perfect vacation right at home.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Upscale shopping and eating are a substantial part of La Jolla. For the best name-brand stores, locals gather at Westfield UTC, where the food court has delicious bites you can grab in a hurry, the outdoor shopping center keeps the atmosphere open and inviting, and fun activities like a movie theater (AMC UTC 14), and a skating rink (UTC ICE) are attached!

For fun outside the shopping center, you'll find most residents at The Comedy Store for the best stand-ups and open-mics or THE LOT enjoying cafés, bars, and a dinner theater!

For the most upscale and delectable meals, dine at Javier's. Here, locals enjoy modern Mexican, Latin, and Spanish cuisines, beautifully unique decor, and a lively atmosphere. Another favorite is Duke’s, a two-story restaurant on the water where diners can enjoy authentic Hawaiian dishes.

Things to Do

La Jolla is famous for its world-renowned and nationally-recognized Torrey Pines Golf Course. Here, locals—and golf enthusiasts from around the world—enjoy 36 holes atop cliffs showcasing the most incredible view of the Pacific Ocean. When thousands aren't gathering at the course for the PGA Tour or U.S. Open, locals look forward to the La Jolla Concerts By The Sea and La Jolla Festival of Arts & Food Faire.

The La Jolla Concerts By The Sea is put on at Ellen Browning Scripps Park and is a family-friendly summer event that’s free to everyone on Sunday afternoons. Every year, La Jolla residents get together for the experience of a lifetime as the best live performances in San Diego fill the park.

As the summer whines down and fall takes over, the new place to be is the La Jolla Festival of Art & Wine Faire, which takes place in October. Here, major attractions include live music, pet adoption, silent auctions, gourmet food, Geppetto's Toys Family Art Center, and local and regional samplings of wine, craft beer, and spirits.
